Vivrant, Pundir slam classic tons; J&K scores 359/4 against Baroda


VADODARA, Jan 26: Talented middle-order batters Vivrant Sharma and Shubham Singh Pundir slammed magnificent centuries as J&K scored 359 for the loss of 4 wickets against Baroda in Ranji Trophy Group-D match at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara today.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, J&K lost opener Qamran Iqbal (04) early in the innings, however, another opener and skipper Shubham Khajuria and Vivrant Sharma consolidated the innings and took the score to 98 runs in 27.2 overs, before the dismissal of Khajuria at his individual score of 47 runs off 91 balls, studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Then came explosive Abdul Samad who contributed brisk 22 off 28 balls with one four and 2 sixes before his departure.

However, Vivrant and Pundir were the real heroes of the day, cracking splendid centuries to guide Jammu and Kashmir reach a good score of 359/4 at stumps on day-1 today.

Both the batters were in awe-inspiring touch, showing sublimity, fluidity and brilliance to hit the ball with elegance, grace and sophistication.

Vivrant scored 139 runs off 191 balls, studded with 11 fours and 7 sixes, while Pundir contributed unbeaten 111 off 166 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Sahil Lotra was at the crease on 25 runs off 57 balls with 2 boundaries.

For Baroda, A Sheth, Mahesh Pithiya and NA Rathva claimed one wicket each.
