72nd All India Police Hockey Championship



 Hosts J&K Police snub SSB 3-1 in group tie


JAMMU, February 02: Hosts J&K Police registered 3-1 win against SSB to strengthen their position in group-E in the ongoing 72 All India Police Hockey Championship at KK Hakhu Stadium in Jammu, J&K.

Satnam Singh brought in the first blood to help the side take lead, however, it was Karanjit, who added two goals to make it an invincible 3-1 score on the board.  Karanjit declared player of the match to be felicitated by member J&K Sports Council and international Wushu player, Bhanu Pratap Singh.

Earlier, during the day, defending champion, Punjab Police inflicted a humiliating 10-0 defeat on Himachal Pradesh in group-A match. Hardeep Singh and Varinder Singh as also Knwarjit Singh scored three goals each. Other goal of the match came through Simranjit Singh. For his brilliant performance, Varinder Singh was named player of the match.

 

Last year’s runners-up, Indian Tibet Border Police (ITBP) had easy encounter against Rajasthan Police beating latter 4-1 in group-B match. Shubham scored the first goal, followed by two from Gurvinder Singh and another goal by Ankit. Gurvinder was obvious choice for the player of the match.

 

Bronze medal winner in the last edition of the championship, Odisha Police made it a 7-4 win against Uttar Pradesh Police.Anwar Shah was declared man of the match for his two important goals. Amit Yadav also played well netting two goals while Gagana Rajbhar and Suraj Singh added one goal each.

In other scheduled matches, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) blanked Chandigarh Police 6-0 and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) blanked Haryana Police 7-0.

Meanwhile, quarterfinals line up has been drawn in the women section. After conducting the league round among eight participating teams divided into four groups of two each, the organisers have pitted them against each other in the knockout stages. Earlier, during the day, in last group match, formidable Odisha Police trounced Gujarat Police 6-0
